Charleston Open: Fan Zone

The Brief:

After a hugely successful activation debut at the event last year, we were entrusted again this year to deliver an even bigger and better fan zone for tennis fans! As an established event on the WTA circuit, the focus was on promoting the sport and providing a fun and immersive environment to inspire fans to get involved in tennis and pick up a racket.


The Process:

Following on from the success of last year, we wanted to go one step further in creating an exciting Fan Zone to really engross fans in the event and tennis! The activations needed to be accessible to fans of all ages and abilities, where we wanted to maximise the exposure of the Fan Zone to help drive participation in the sport. With a great site space available for us to utilise, the team were eager to get stuck in and put all our resources to good use!


The Result:

Charleston Open Fan Zone: The Fan Zone featured 5 bespoke tennis activations, including our brand new Multiball simulator and the return of some fan favourites with tennis enthusiasts!

Speed of Serve: Fans have three attempts to achieve their highest speed of serve!


Knock’ Em Down: Armed with a tennis racket, fans were challenged to knock down as many tennis balls as possible from the pillars.


Be The Ball: Replicating a tennis court, fans could go head-to-head against each other to complete the maze as quick as possible in a timed challenge! Fans used an iPad to control the ball around the maze.


Multiball Tennis Simulator: An exciting addition to our range of simulators! Throughout the week we switched up the gameplay for fans where they had a choice of points based or arcade games. Targets would be shown on the screen where fans had to hit the ball at the screen.


Ball Kid Challenge: Replicating the role of ball boys & girls within elite tennis, fans had to roll the ball 10m into the ball kid’s hands.


We welcomed over 24,000 fans through the Fan Zone at Charleston and inspired so many more to pick up a racket and get involved. Fans were spoilt for choice with a wide range of activations on offer, providing every fan an opportunity to interact and have fun! It was a pleasure to activate at the event again following on from the success of last year, as our activation work is swiftly becoming acknowledged in the world of tennis. The team enjoyed witnessing the joy and buzz the Fan Zone brought to the event as a result of their hard work and efforts – just one of the many perks we all benefit from as a full-service sport activation agency.
